Projects selected for Hangzhou Stories

September 28, 2023 / Hangzhou, News

Last week marked an exciting milestone as we concluded a series of invigorating workshops. Five extraordinary Hangzhou Stories projects that have been chosen for further development.

We couldn’t be more thrilled to provide our unwavering support to these exceptionally talented filmmakers as they embark on the exhilarating journey of bringing their visions to life on the silver screen.

Discover the teams and their stories below:

  1. Zishuo WEI  and Haiyang QIAO
Story of a loving couple living in rural China: she is blind, he is deaf. Together they get through the challenges of life.
  2. Yuting CAO and Yingzhi LIULING
Afternoon tea in dancing halls are very popular with a middle age generation. Nothing illegal happens, so why are the filmmakers not allowed to film?
  3. Yuhong PANG  and Obbery DONG
During Covid many people made life changing decisions. A young couple quit their high earning jobs, moved to a new city and hope to open a beer bar in October. But so many decisions and so much bickering, will the relationship survive?
  4. WOODY and Wen ZHAO
A poetical portrait of a young digital nomad who gives up the digital world for writing.
  5. Ting ZHANG and Wenjia GU
Family story with the daughter as a filmmaker,  the parents in their 90s having lived through the most turbulent political years of China, dad losing his memory and stuck in the past and mum trying not to forget amazing years spent in Hangzhou as a teenager.

Hangzhou Stories is a new, creative documentary programme in collaboration with SDI and CNEX Foundation, funded by the British Council.
